Manchester to Host Co-op Education Conference

A conference on co-operative education in the current period of rapid social change will take place at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Geoffrey Manton Building on 5 and 6 April.

With the theme of ‘Learning for Co-operative Transformations’, the conference will focus on ways that co-operative learning, whether formal or informal, in schools, universities, workplaces and communities can challenge inequalities and contribute to building co-operative authenticity, sustainability and resilience around the world.

The third annual Co-operative Education and Research Conference of the Co-operative College, the event will bring together a broad range of co-operative thinkers to present research, hold discussions and conduct workshops.

“We are currently living through a period of rapid global change where the socio-economic and political landscapes are transforming and there is a widening gap between the rich and poor,” says the Co-operative College website. “Within this there is an appetite for an alternative to traditional capitalist models, be they co-operative, social enterprise or other collaborative, collective solutions.”

Keynote speakers will include Keri Facer, Professor of Educational and Social Futures at the University of Bristol, and the poet and broadcaster, Lemn Sissay.
