The 90th anniversary of the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War will be commemorated in Manchester on 28 February when author Chris Hall launches his latest book on the conflict.
Hall will present British Volunteers and the Spanish Civil War: ‘The Passionate Cause’ 1936-39 at Manchester Central Library as part of the North West International Brigade Memorial Group’s annual Jarama celebration and remembrance event.
Hall’s other books include In Spain with Orwell: George Orwell and the ILP Volunteers in the Spanish Civil War, 1936-1939 and ‘Not just Orwell’: The Independent Labour Party Volunteers and the Spanish Civil War.
There will also be a performance from the Bolton Clarion Choir as well as speeches, wreaths and commemorations at the Spanish Civil War memorial in the library, followed by a social event at the Town Hall Tavern.
