New Website for Leeds Social Changers

A new website has been launched to link groups in Leeds who are working to make the world a better place.

Called Leeds for Change, the website aims to be a both a tool for existing campaign groups and a resource for individuals who want to find out what’s going on and locate other activists and organisations in the city.

Whether it’s better mental health in Seacroft, poverty in Bramley or climate change across the globe – groups trying to bring about social change often face similar sets of challenges and sometimes share broadly similar world-views,” says the site’s ‘About us’ page.

“Leeds for Change aims to strengthen the existing cooperation between these groups and to draw in any others who can see the benefits of working together.”

The website is the brainchild of three Leeds organisations – TidalTaking Soundings and Together for Peace – who “came up with the brilliant idea of creating a platform that inspires people to make change, encourages people to get together and makes it as easy as possible to find out what is going on in Leeds and to meet others”.

The aim, they say, to create, not just a website, but “a whole movement and social platform” for change in the city.

Individuals can sign up as registered users while organisations that share the values of justice, equality and solidarity can join as group members, enabling them to have a profile page, advertise events, recruit members, collaborate and blog.

The site will have a ‘featured group’ slot on the home page, as well as lists of blogs, events, comments and news. There are also sections for actions and resources.
