The Together Alliance is holding a pair of summits in October to plan, organise and build against the far right in local communities across the country.
The group, which pulled together a huge anti-far right demonstration in London on 28 March this year, is calling for “organisers, campaigners, trade unionists, activists, creatives, educators, community leaders and local people” in Manchester and London to come together to organise, collaborate and share strategies about how to stop the far right threat.
“We know the challenges we face are bigger than ever before. The voices of division and hate are growing louder,” says the Alliance.
“But we also know that when we come together, we are stronger than hate. We can build the unity we need to stop the far right.
“That’s why we’re hosting two summits, North and South, to organise together.”
The Together Alliance is supported by numerous musicians, actors, writers and other public figures, as well as a host of unions, charities, campaign groups and other organisations.
The first summit will be at Kings House in Manchester on Saturday 17 October, while the second, a week later on 24 October, is at 20 Bedford Way in London’s Bloomsbury.
The events, say the group, are not intended to be conferences for “people who sit back and listen” but gatherings of activists and campaigners “to build power and plan action”.
“On 28 March, half a million people marched together against the far right,” says Together. “We’ve shown the country that the politics of hate do not speak for all of us.
“But the local election results are a wake-up call that our work is nowhere near done. Across the country, the far right is growing louder and more organised.
“Those who push a message of racism and hate are getting more confident – and we will not stand back and watch it happen.”
