The politics of place take centre stage at the second of five webinars set up by Labour Together to discuss its ‘plan for national reconstruction’ published last month.

Labour’s Covenant according to MP Jon Cruddas, is “a concept for renewing Labour’s political philosophy, political economy and statecraft… a way of making political relationships and exercising consensual power that is consolidated in legitimate and sovereign institutions.”

The five online events focus on different aspects of the Covenant, including the economy, Labour’s renewal, ‘land and nature’ and foreign policy.

The second, entitled ‘Why place it the new politics’, will be held on Thursday 7 February. It will examine “how national reconstruction can be can be done by those in Labour who are in power, and why place matters in politics today”.

Speakers include:

  • Alex Norris, Shadow Minister for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities
  • John Tomaney, Professor of Urban and Regional Planning, University College London
  • Jessica Studdert, Deputy Chief Executive, New Local.

You can sign up for the meeting here.

The first webinar on ‘What is Labour‘s Covenant?’ was held on 3 February. It can be viewed here.

Details of the remaining three discussions are available here.
