A Politics of Radical Hope and the Labour Party

The ILP is getting together with the campaigning pressure group Compass in September to examine the future of the Labour Party and the politics of radical hope.

Compass Radical Hope NEWThe public meeting will be held in Leeds on Saturday 19 September, just one week after Labour elects a new leader and deputy leader, and four months on from the party’s disastrous defeat at the general election.

The day will focus on the implications of the election results for Labour’s future, and that of radical politics more widely.

Neal Lawson from Compass will lead the morning’s discussion based on his pamphlet, Downfall: Is Labour dead and how can radical hope be rebuilt? available now to download from the Compass website.

Neal’s contribution will be followed by a panel discussion with Sarah Perrigo, formerly of the Peace Studies Department at Bradford University, and Barry Winter of the ILP.

The afternoon session will focus on how we might rebuild the Labour Party with particular emphasis on its relationship to radical social and protest movements, with contributions from Sue Goss, author of Open Tribe, and others.

There will be lots of opportunities for discussion, debate and contributions from conference participants.

The meeting will start at 10.30am with tea and coffee and finish at 4pm.

The full programme and more information about the speakers is available from the downloadable booking form available here.

The seminar takes place at the Rose Bowl, Leeds Beckett University, room 408. This is a modern venue with easy access for travel by train and car. Rose Bowl, Portland Crescent, Leeds, LS1 3HB.

The event is free but you do need to register in advance, deadline 12 September. Please contact us at: info@independentlabour.org.uk or 07799 502 937; or you can book using the downloadable booking form available here.
